How can obesity affect life and health and how lose pounds while staying healthy?

obesity affect life and health

Obesity is the most common nutritional problem in the United States.

What is the cause of obesity? There is a certain metabolic interrelationship between the various tissues and organs of the body. There is also a cyclic condition in the body with regard to food intake and the rate of breakdown of stored food in the body. Most of the stored food in the body is stored as fat and protein. The source of the fat and protein is either the diet or the liver. Protein is stored in muscle tissue; protein build-up in muscle tissue is only through growth in children. In adults protein buildup occurs through muscle building repetitive exercise.

The cycle of fed and starved state is an ongoing situation throughout life:
When the fed state predominates over the starved state, obesity is likely to result. There are many factors that influence the length of each of these states, below are some of them:

1. Level of Physical Activity 2. Hormones  3. Emotions  4. Genetics

What does the body use for energy while at rest? The main form of energy that the body uses at rest is fat in the form of free fatty acids. This fact may prompt some people to eat fat and remain at rest without exercise in order to burn the fat. If this were possible then there of course there would not be the issue of obesity. The body is not a simple machine that can be that easily programmed.

The Thermogenic Effect of Food: There is a phenomenon called the thermogenic effect of food. Part of the energy that is obtained from food is used to generate heat rather than being stored as fat. This is actually a way to burn some calories from the food we eat before it gets stored.

Some thermogenic food: Garlic,Ginger, Parsley, Lemons,Berries, Broccoli and Cauliflower, Cabbage, Brussel sprouts

People who exercise regularly are more likely to have a higher level of diet-induced thermogenesis. In addition, high carbohydrate diets induce a higher level of thermogenesis.

What happens during exercise? There are two metabolic responses to physical activity, aerobic and anaerobic. Therefore whether you are able to burn off much of the stored fat in your body during exercise depends on the type of exercise and the duration of the activity. During anaerobic activity the muscle relies on its own stored energy reserve, which is in the form of phosphocreatine and glycogen.

Initially during aerobic exercise, the muscles use the stored glycogen for energy. However, with the prolongation of the activity the body makes a switch to the fatty acids from the breakdown of the fat from the abundant fat stores

The point at which the body begins to burn stored fat depends on the rate and intensity at which the exercise is going on. For example there is little or no fat used during a 100-meter sprint. In fact there is not much fat used by the body during a sprint until after you have gone beyond the 1500 meter mark. Therefore, in order to lose weight from exercise you must continue the exercise until well into the period when the body burns the fat.

Hormonal causes of obesity include hypothyroidism. Other causes of obesity include tumors and problems in the hunger control centers of the hypothalamus. However, it has been said and it is true that the most common problem that causes obesity is over activity of the salivary glands (overeating). Having said that, it is important to realize that the issue of obesity is more than simply a lack of self-control as the cause.

Most people believe that they need to eat three meals a day for a healthy lifestyle. Most people do not need to eat more than one a day. The rest of what is consumed should be a piece of fruit or vegetable and water. Another common source of calories is juices; it is far better to eat the fruits than to drink the juices, unless you are making the juices yourself.

What are the reasons for weight reduction in obese individuals? There are a multitude of reasons to lose weight. There are many studies that suggest a longer life span in animals whose caloric intake is restricted. A reduction of food intake by 40% in rats has been shown to increase life span by 50%. An example of such a scenario in human terms would mean the difference between a life span of 50 years and that of 75 years.

One way that weight loss can be achieved is by eliminating meat and eating a vegetarian diet or raw food diet. The common perception that you cannot obtain adequate nutrition on a vegetarian diet is not true. There are many vegetarians around and in general vegetarians have lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and are generally not as heavy as meat eaters.

Techniques For Weight Management:

1. Stimulus Control: This technique involves the modification and control of the events and circumstances that surround eating.

2. Self Monitoring: Keep daily records of what you eat. Also record the thoughts and circumstances surrounding when and how you eat. (e.g. are you angry or happy or sad?). Record how much you eat. Upon review at the end of the week you can see a pattern that you can then modify.

3. Plan Your Meals: Success at weight loss is easier to achieve with a well laid out plan. Planning should be daily and weekly. At the end of the week, review what you have done and plan the following week. Just as you prepare for other important things, you should spend time planning your meals and food intake in order to lose weight.

4. Appetite Suppressants: There are a few drugs out that are approved for weight loss. These are available only by prescription. However, there are nutritional and homeopathic products that may help supplement your efforts at weight loss.
